Family Fun in Rhode Island

Year-round activities both on land and in the water make Rhode Island a place that will be enjoyed by the entire family. With its many museums, parks and historic sites, there is something for everyone.

Green Animals Topiary Gardens

Adults and children alike will be delighted by this fun and fanciful garden estate. There are more than 80 topiaries throughout the gardens on the property, which include animals, birds, geometric figures and ornamental designs. The self-efficient estate is owned by The Preservation Society of Newport County and is available seasonally for tours.
Roger Williams Park Zoo

One of the nation's oldest zoos, Rogers Williams Park features over 100 differed species of rare and endangered animals. The close-up animal encounters, open space for play at Hasbro’s Our Big Backyard area and the educational conservation programs make it a fun attraction for everyone.
Providence Children's Museum

The hands-on exhibits and special programs make this museum fun for the entire family. Exhibits include Water Ways, which will teach children about the different properties of water; Play Power, where children can make mazes from air tubes and magnets before sending objects soaring through them; and The Climber, a two-story high climbing maze that is perfect for climbing and wriggling through.
Brenton Point State Park

This beautiful park allows visitors plenty of hiking, fishing and picnicking opportunities near the gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean. Kite enthusiasts gather in the park almost every day to enjoy the ocean breezes and fly their kites.

Save the Bay's Exploration Center and Aquarium

This beachfront aquarium in Newport is a great way to explore the ocean while still on land. With over 140 different species from Narragansett Bay, children can enjoy learning about and touching many of the different local creatures. After the visit, the entire family can enjoy beachcombing and searching for various animals outside of the aquarium, which has Newport's only ocean-facing beach.
Slater Mill

Rhode Island is rich in history and Slater Mill is no exception. Focusing on the American Industrial Revolution, family members will have a chance to go back in time and experience life in the 18th and 19th century in the three buildings at this interactive museum.

Every family member has different interests from one another, but there is something for everyone in the family when visiting Rhode Island. Enjoy the outdoors, learn something new and spend quality time as a family with the many attractions available throughout the state.
